Mercy Seat Ministry is now
Selah Therapy + Formation!
Dear Clients,
It has been such a privilege to be welcomed into your stories, your struggles, and bear witness to your healing, growth and freedom. As a team, we are so grateful be trusted to hold sacred space with you as you move towards healing in Christ. Thank-you.
As you are likely aware, the desire and need for high-quality therapy is more apparent than ever, and the unique need for faith-integrative counselling is increasing as well. As a result, Mercy Seat Ministry has grown significantly over the past several years—from our original location in Chilliwack, then expanding into Langley and, most recently, into Williams Lake.
With the growing need, we have come to identify opportunities for our practice to also change and grow. As we see more therapists desiring training in this type of work, we have begun an Internship Program to support professionals in their graduate training with supplemental specialized training and experience in faith-integrative clinical practice. This also enables us to provide low-cost counselling to local communities.
As our practice builds capacity to offer more services, support more therapists and train more graduate students, we have also decided to embrace the opportunity to rebrand our practice. We are excited to share with you that Mercy Seat Ministry is now called Selah Therapy + Formation.
Why the name change?
Clarity: At times, those unfamiliar with our work have identified us as a para-church ministry. We want to clearly articulate to those new to our work that we are a full-service counselling practice, where individuals can work with licensed, professional counsellors. We hope that individuals searching for Christ-centered professional counselling will quickly be able to identify us as a practice that can meet that need.
Confusion: We have found our name being confused with Mercy Canada (formerly Mercy Ministries Canada). This is a non-profit organization which also provides individual counselling and therapy groups as a part of their services. With offices in Langley, the mix-up is understandable.
Future Regulation: As our province and the BC association of Clinical Counsellors moves towards the regulation of counselling as a profession, we anticipate the profession will move under the umbrella of a regulatory Health College within the next year or two. As this happens, there will be increased need to thoughtfully articulate our identity as a group of professionals operating within regulatory standards, while also ensuring we can offer Christ-centered services with professional ethical integrity and clarity. We hope that in the current shifting of the profession, we can position ourselves to continue to offer our services with confidence as we protect and grow our unique service in the future.
Has the vision changed?
The name change does not reflect any changes to our core vision: We are a supportive community of faith-based mental-health practitioners, working together to deliver high quality, ethically sound faith-integrative counselling services to individuals, families and communities. We seek to train and empower clinicians, support local churches in caring for their communities, and support clients to experience lasting healing through the work of Christ and power of the Holy Spirit, which enables them to live out their vocation and calling as flourishing members of the Kingdom of God.
What will change for your experience?
Hopefully nothing! We are aiming to make this transition as seamless as possible.
Booking: Our Janeapp booking site has transitioned to selahtherapy.janeapp.com. However, anytime you use our previous Janeapp URL, you will automatically be redirected to our current booking site. Your client login information, profile and records remain unchanged.
Email: When you need to contact your therapist, you are able to use either their previous email (firstname)@mercyseatministry.ca or their new one: (firstname)@selahtherapy.ca. Both will go to their inbox.
Receipts: Receipts will be issued to you as they have been. If you submit your receipts to extended health providers, no action should be needed on your part. For the most part, insurers are looking for the name and professional registration number of your therapist. These will remain on the receipt, only our logo and name will change.
Website: You’re on the new site now! Take a look around, we are so excited to share it with you!
Thank you for your continued trust. It is an honour to walk with you.
Warmly,
